Syracuse, N.Y. -- Sydney Huhtala lit up the scoreboard for the Baldwinsville Bees for two athletic seasons this year before playing a key role in the most rewarding stretch of all without contributing a single point.
The senior’s talent in contributing in ways both flashy and supportive have earned the her Syracuse.com’s All-CNY female athlete of the year. Huhtala was one of the award winners at the annual All-CNY sports awards ceremony on Thursday at North Syracuse Junior High School.
Huhtala capped her three-sport effort as a hub of the Bees state Class A champion girls lacrosse team. The midfielder dominated on draws and ground balls all season, setting up scoring chances for her teammates.
That came after a basketball season in which Huhtala posted 16.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per contest. The Bees finished 16-6 and reached the Section III Class AA finals.
Huhtala was also a playmaker in the fall, contributing 10 goals and 15 assists for sectional champion Baldwinsville, including a hat trick in the Bees’ 3-0 win over C-NS in the title game.
Huhtala will continue her athletic career playing at Division I Niagara.
