No. 2 Rock Valley 74, No. 1 Central Lyon 51

The third meeting wasn’t anything like the first two. Rock Valley and Central Lyon split 65-63 decisions in the regular season. But in Des Moines, the Rockets rocketed to a 17-6 lead after one quarter and 38-18 advantage at the half and cruised to their fifth state title.

Rock Valley (22-5) ended up beating the team ranked No. 1 in the final Associated Press poll, Boyden-Hull, on its path to state, then the team seeded No. 1, Central Lyon, for its first championship since winning back-to-back crowns in 2009 and 2010. Both those teams finished ahead of it in the Siouxland Conference standings.

Rock Valley’s Landyn Van Kekerix scored 26 points on 10-for-12 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds and Bryson Van Grootheest put up 25 points. Zach Lutmer led Central Lyon (24-3) with 15.

No. 1 Dallas Center-Grimes 56, No. 7 DeWitt Central 53

Jacob Runyan scored a game-high 31 points, including the go-ahead layup with 57 seconds left to lift Dallas Center-Grimes (22-5) to its first boys’ state basketball championship.

After a Central turnover, Runyan also hit two free throws with 2.5 seconds to go and the Sabers’ last heave was off the mark. Runyan made 12 of 16 shots from the field, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, and dished four assists. Cole Glasgow and Bo Huston both added 10 points for the Mustangs.

The Sabers (20-7) rallied from 12 down in the fourth quarter to take a 53-52 lead on Shawn Gilbert’s basket with 1:08 remaining. The big man totaled 23 points (10 in the fourth) on 8-for-15 shooting and six rebounds and was named all-tournament captain. Ryan Watters had 13 points.

Iowa State signee Tamin Lipsey closed his high school career with a triple-double (11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists), helping Ames (23-3) to its ninth state championship. He was named captain of the all-tournament team.

Trevion LaBeaux scored a game-high 18 points for the Little Cyclones and Lucas Lueth added 12. Ames shot 66.7 percent from the field and from 3-point range (8 for 12). It led 17-8 after the first quarter and 36-16 at the half.

Trey Lewis led the Dragons (21-4), runners-up for the second year in a row, with 15 points and three assists.
