Week 1 scoreboard: Mansfield Senior Tygers, Plymouth Big Red win

It was exactly the start Richland County football was looking for in Week 1 of the 2022 season.

Six of the nine Richland County schools that field a football team picked up wins kicking off their seasons with a 1-0 record heading into Week 2. The three teams that took losses lost to fellow Richland County schools.

Let's check out some scores and highlights from Week 1.

The Mansfield Senior Tygers went on the road to Norwalk for the first time in six years and rolled home with a solid 41-19 victory to kick off the 2022 campaign 1-0.

After falling behind early, 6-0, the Tygers responded with a Ricky Mills 44-yard touchdown run to grab a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Norwalk, which controlled the time of possession in the first half, scored to make it 12-7 before the Tygers answered with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Duke Reese to Amarr Davis and an 8-yard Mills touchdown run to make it 20-12 at the half.

Reese started the second half out with a 52-yard bomb of a touchdown to Davis to make it 27-12 as Norwalk answered right back taking the ensuing kickoff back for a score to cut it to 27-19. The Tygers tacked on two more scores, both runs by Mills of five and nine yards, to put the finishing touches on the Week 1 victory.

Mills was sensational with 83 yards rushing on nine carries with four of those going for touchdowns. Zyion Brown added 91 yards on 11 carries. Reese finished 6-of-11 passing for 106 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Davis was on the receiving end of three passes going for 106 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Mekhi Bradley collected 10 tackles with 2.5 going for a loss and 0.5 sacks. Aaron Thornton had nine tackles with a TFL and Mills completed his well-rounded way with eight tackles including a sack and two TFLs. Davis made a huge impact on defense as well with two interceptions while Elias Owens led the team with 1.5 sacks.

The Tygers open up Arlin Field in Week 2 as they welcome in North Canton Hoover.

The Plymouth Big Red went on the road and roughed up the Oberlin Phoenix in Week 1 of the 2022 high school football season.

Plymouth scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters to pull away with the blowout win.

Shae Sparks ran for 132 yards on just nine carries while Caiden Allen picked up 70 yards on three carries, Lane Bushey had 59 yards on three carries, Colton Sparks added 55 yards on two carries and Trace McVey rounded out the rushing totals with 20 yards on 10 carries. The Big Red piled up 378 yard rushing on 37 attempts come completed just one pass for 29 yards.

Colton Sparks got the scoring started with a 58-yard touchdown run before Bushey scored from 13 yards out three minutes later. Shae Sparks scored back-to-back touchdowns of 21 and 30 yards before Allen ripped off a 31-yard score and Sparks put the finishing touches on the night with a six-yard touchdown run.

The Big Red (1-0) is back in action in Week 2 at Willard.
