June 25-26, June 29-July 4: The San Diego County Fair offers the latest trends in home décor, garden designs and outdoor living, as well as a garden show. July 9: Buildings designed by well-known architects and structures that played civic roles in Oceanside will be highlighted during the Downtown Oceanside History Walk. July 11 and July 25: Learn the art of floral design using Ikebana in the Sogetsu-ryu school of style during classes at the Japanese Friendship Garden. Students are asked to bring flowers and branches, and implements if they have them. July 15: A trio of plant-related experiences will be available during the monthly Plant Days and Orchid Odyssey event at the San Diego Zoo. The remodeled Orchid Odyssey greenhouse will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors also can tour the Carnivorous Plant Greenhouse from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost: Zoo admission. July 17: Interested in the architecture of Irving Gill? The “Seventh Avenue Walking Tour: A Progressive Vision,” hosted by the Save Our Heritage Organisation, illustrates Gill’s design progression from English Arts and Crafts to Prairie Style to his cubistic Early Modernism — all during 1905 and 1906.
