New York, NY - Brian Morales has been named Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Digital Strategy, Deputy Director of Athletics Brandon Fieland announced.  "We are thrilled to add Brian and his expertise to expand our communications department," Fieland said. "Brian brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this role and will help us promote our exceptional student-athletes and coaches in various platforms. He is an exciting addition to our program and I am confident he will excel in this role." Morales spent the last eight years at Wagner College, serving as Assistant Director for Media Relations before being elevated to Director of Media Relations in November 2019. Before arriving on Grymes Hill, he spent seven years at his alma mater and fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) institution, St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights. "I would like to thank Cat Alves, Brandon Fieland, and the entire search committee for the opportunity to join the John Jay community," said Morales. "I'm excited to join the athletics team and continue to build upon the Bloodhounds' success." In his role at Wagner, Morales served as the primary media relations contact for Wagner's women's basketball, baseball, bowling, cross country, women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, and track & field programs. Among his responsibilities, he supervised two graduate assistants within the Media Relations office to help promote Wagner's 26 Division I athletic programs.  During his time with the Seahawks, Morales had the opportunity to work with outstanding coaches, including three-time NEC Coach of the Year, Joe Stasi, while serving as primary track and field contact, two-time NEC Baseball Coach of the Year, Jim Carone, and two-time Jim Phelan Coach of the Year, Bashir Mason, while serving as the men's basketball media contact.  Morales has promoted multiple All-Conference selections across all six sports programs he oversees, two All-Americans (baseball), a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First-Team honoree as well as numerous Player and Rookie of the Week selections. Throughout 2015 through 2018, he was responsible for all media relations during the Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, held at Wagner's Spiro Sports Center. This included the distribution of updated statistics, game notes, and other information in a timely fashion for members of both the print and electronic media before and during the tournament. He was also responsible for the promotion of the men's basketball team achieving its first-ever postseason win during the First Round of the 2016 National Invitational Tournament (NIT) and again in 2018.  During his tenure at St. Francis Brooklyn, Morales was the primary contact for thirteen (13) Division I programs, which included all media relations for the then-nationally ranked women's bowling program as well as the 2013 & 2014 Northeast Conference champion men's soccer team.  A Brooklyn, NY native, Morales played a pivotal role in the technological improvements in the St. Francis Brooklyn media relations practices. Under the direction of the Director of Media Relations and the Director of Athletic Marketing, video features were added to the athletics website and Morales helped in initiating St. Francis Brooklyn's social media presence, helping Terriers fans get their news anytime, anywhere. From its simple beginnings with a single Facebook account, the St. Francis Brooklyn digital communications program grew to a full assortment of social media accounts in the 2012-13 academic year.  An active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), he served as a mentor in the organization's Mentorship Program for the past four years. On April 18, 2019, Morales was appointed chair of the inaugural CoSIDA Mentorship Committee , where he, along with Vice-Chair, Theresa Kurtz (Mountain West Conference) coordinated a 12-person committee in pairing mentors and mentees from across all NCAA and NAIA programs. In addition, Morales finished up his fifth year as a committee member on the CoSIDA Continuing Education Committee.  In 2021, Morales joined the Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBW) Executive Committee, as he works closely with the MBWA Communications Director in website design, social media, and the coordination of the weekly awards and Haggerty Awards dinner.  In May of 2022, Morales was voted as the Northeast Conference (NEC) SID Chair, where he worked closely with the Senior Associate Commissioner on ideas and concepts that directly impact the conference.  A 2008 graduate of St. Francis Brooklyn, Morales began working in the Terriers' Athletics Department during his junior year, while pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Communications Arts. As a student intern, he coordinated weekly pre- and post-game shows while assisting in the day-to-day setup for the "Terrier Sports Network," the audio/video streaming network of St. Francis Brooklyn Athletics.  Morales went on to earn a Master's Degree in Sports Business Management from Manhattanville College in 2012. Additionally, Morales obtained a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in NCAA Compliance from Drexel University's Thomas R. Kline School of Law.   An avid New York sports fan, Morales currently resides in the Kensington section of Brooklyn, where he has lived his entire life.
